Consumer group Which conducted an analysis of over 850,000 flights, and concluded that on average roughly 75% of flights into the UK arrive 15 or more minutes late. The analysis looked at CAA data for flights arriving at 25 UK airports, for 35 different airlines.

Some airlines have responded to this by pointing out that the data does not compare like-for-like, and also includes flights delayed for reasons outside the airlines’ control. For example, some airlines operate more from congested airports, while other airlines operate primarily from smaller airports where congestion is less of an issue, so the comparison between different airlines is not entirely fair.

Having said this, the figures still make shocking reading, as it doesn’t lessen the inconvenience caused by a delay to know that it wasn’t the airlines fault. Our advice to travellers would be to allow extra time for the likelihood of a delay.
