London Luton Airport Named as the Worst Airport in the UK

For the second year in a row, London Luton Airport has been named the worst airport in the UK, according to a Which? annual survey.

More than 8,000 people were surveyed about holiday hassles, and the results returned showed six big London airports in the bottom six for customer satisfaction.

What is it that Luton customers are unhappy with?

Luton scored the lowest points in a number of categories which judged queues, security control, baggage reclaim, seating provision and pick-up and drop-off point. One of the main areas of complaint is Luton’s pick up and drop off point, which only allows for a maximum stay of 10 minutes and then charges you £2 to exit.

Member of Hampstead cricket club, John Mennis, was amongst those voicing their frustrations. He said:

“Another hideous queue at Luton Airport – there must be something that someone can do about it. Such a drag. [Staff] forced a lady in front of me to buy a plastic bag for a tiny bottle of prescribed eye drops – extortion!”

Which airports are at the top of the table?

Smaller airports, who handle less than four million passengers each year, including London, Southend, Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield were at the top of the table with an 85% score.

Richard Lloyd, Executive Director of Which? said:

“The message from travellers is clear – larger airports continue to let people down on the basics, from baggage reclaim to food outlets”.

What’s next for Luton Airport?

The airport has received planning permission for a £100m development project. The project will see an increase from 12 to 18 million in the annual passenger capacity by 2031. For the sake of the users lets hope that the problems they currently face are dealt with long before, or the rise in capacity could lead to a major increase in flight delays.

If you’ve been stuck at the airport during flight delays you may be eligible to claim for flight delay compensation. We will help with your no win no fee claim and keep you updated throughout. Use our easy to use claim calculator to see what your claim is worth today.

Big thanks for the £304.70 transferred to my bank account today. My claim related to a three-leg flight from Norwich UK to Phoenix USA via Schiphol. The CAA suggested I had a good case but could do nothing because the delay occurred within Dutch jurisdiction. I twice did battle with KLM/Delta myself but they would not budge. Another claims firm tried but threw in the towel. So congratulations to Claim4Flights for taking it on and winning – and for getting the money transferred into my bank account within two days of notification. Very impressed!
