French Air Traffic Control Strike Results in Hundreds of Cancelled Flights

Ryanair Plane in Flight

French air traffic controllers walked out again today over another dispute in working practises. The air traffic controllers’ unions are protesting against labour reforms introduced by President Macron, which they say promise to be “dangerous for employees and their representatives”.

Ryanair has cancelled at least 110 flights in response, and flights by some other airlines, such as British Airways, have also been affected.

Flights between Ryanair’s main UK base, Stansted, and the following destinations are cancelled: Barcelona, Bergerac, Blagnac, Bordeaux, Limoges, Madrid, Marseille, Palma and Perpignan.

Flights on the following routes are also affected:  Luton-Nimes; Manchester-Ibiza; Leeds/Bradford-Palma and East Midlands-Barcelona.

Ryanair also warn that further flight delays and cancellations are likely. Its marketing director, Kenny Jacobs, said: “Enough is enough. If the French Government is serious about changing France, they should start by tackling these air traffic control unions, and together with the European Commission, should take immediate action to prevent thousands of European consumers from having their travel plans disrupted by a tiny group of ATC unions going on strike once again.

“They cannot stand idly by as more disruption and travel misery is inflicted upon Europe’s consumers and airlines.”

Big thanks for the £304.70 transferred to my bank account today. My claim related to a three-leg flight from Norwich UK to Phoenix USA via Schiphol. The CAA suggested I had a good case but could do nothing because the delay occurred within Dutch jurisdiction. I twice did battle with KLM/Delta myself but they would not budge. Another claims firm tried but threw in the towel. So congratulations to Claim4Flights for taking it on and winning – and for getting the money transferred into my bank account within two days of notification. Very impressed!
