Emergency Landing of Easyjet Flight Following ‘Technical Issue’ – Compensation Probably Due

On 2nd June 2016, an Easyjet flight encountered a technical issue shortly after take-off from Liverpool airport, and diverted to Manchester where an emergency landing was carried out.

The flight departed from Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport at 09:42, but shortly afterwards began jettisoning fuel in preparation for an emergency landing. Manchester airport was attended by emergency vehicles and fire crews, but thankfully the landing happened safely with no injury or further incident.

The airline apologises for any inconvenience caused to passengers, and stressed that safety had been the number one priority during the incident.

Passengers were hoping to arrive in Faro, Portugal, at 12:25. However, they will now be arriving late at their destination once the airline accommodates them on alternative flights.

Although it is a small consolation to passengers affected, there is the possibility that they will be able to claim compensation for the delay, as the airline have openly blamed a ‘technical fault’ for the diversion and emergency landing. Under Regulation EC261/2004, technical faults are not usually valid reasons for failing to pay flight delay compensation, so the passengers are likely to receive compensation if they claim for the delay.

Big thanks for the £304.70 transferred to my bank account today. My claim related to a three-leg flight from Norwich UK to Phoenix USA via Schiphol. The CAA suggested I had a good case but could do nothing because the delay occurred within Dutch jurisdiction. I twice did battle with KLM/Delta myself but they would not budge. Another claims firm tried but threw in the towel. So congratulations to Claim4Flights for taking it on and winning – and for getting the money transferred into my bank account within two days of notification. Very impressed!
