Baggage System Failure at Heathrow Hits Travellers

Baggage Reclaim

Thousands of travellers were separated from their luggage today due to a systems failure at Heathrow Airport. Travellers were told to transfer and pack essential items into their hand luggage instead.

The first wave of flights departing from terminals 3 and 5 were affected. Heathrow airport say the problems are now resolved, but urge affected travellers to contact their airline with baggage queries.

Several airlines were affected, but British Airways operate the majority of flights from these terminals so they were most badly affected, only weeks after a catastrophic IT failure left thousands of BA passengers delayed or stranded.

BA told passengers, “We are very sorry for the difficulties the failure of the Heathrow baggage systems is causing customers and we will be working as hard as we can to re-unite those customers with their luggage as quickly as possible. All bags will be delivered to customers free of charge.”

If you were affected and reached your destination without your luggage, you can purchase essential items and claim back the money later from the airline, provided you keep hold of receipts.

Big thanks for the £304.70 transferred to my bank account today. My claim related to a three-leg flight from Norwich UK to Phoenix USA via Schiphol. The CAA suggested I had a good case but could do nothing because the delay occurred within Dutch jurisdiction. I twice did battle with KLM/Delta myself but they would not budge. Another claims firm tried but threw in the towel. So congratulations to Claim4Flights for taking it on and winning – and for getting the money transferred into my bank account within two days of notification. Very impressed!
